Schools teach not soul
Nor love
Nor the true power of self
That shines without compunction.
Schools teach not us
Our history
From the dawn of our own time
Through the transmigration of roses
Lifetime after lifetime of growth
But not in computation.
Schools teach not power
The true power
To release, embrace, risk,
Choose
Choose how and what to be in
Our own time and place.
Schools teach not heart
That deep compassion that holds
All of earth in grace,
That knows we have all
Been there and probably done that
And that we are no less worthy
Because of it.
Ah, what a pale how is the focus of
Today’s education,
And how bright our children shine regardless
And in despite of us.
